Hello!

My name is Jamie Kaplan and I am student at Emerson College studying Visual and Media Arts. I created this website in order to bring together and exhibit some of the many projects I’ve worked on over the past few years. Enjoy!

Who am I?

I am an Austin, Texas native, the city all about keeping things weird and interesting. That’s what I grew up on. That’s what I want to keep doing. I’ve always had passion for visual art and look for opportunities to create and learn more about it everywhere I go. I hope that this site will be able to facilitate future opportunities to do so.

What can I do?

As for my abilities, I am proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and After Effects. I am seasoned in creating print, digital, and motion graphics. In addition, I am an Apple Certified Professional in Final Cut Pro. I have foundational knowledge in HTML and CSS and can interpret JQuery and Javascript if presented to me. Photography has always been a passion of mine and because of this, I am very comfortable behind almost any camera (film, digital, and video.) Odds are, if you hand me some equipment, I can figure out how to use it in a matter of minutes.

What do I do?

Currently, I work as a Graphic Design Assistant at Emerson College where I assist in creating all of the print design materials that the college needs. This includes designs for t-shirts, posters, flyers, tote bags, pamphlets, and programs. Basically, I design Emerson’s SWAG.

Additionally, I work as a Video and Design Intern at Customer Portfolios. While I’m there I create instructional and advertorial videos that illustrate and detail their new Clienteling App. When I’m not doing video, I’m assisting the Creative Director in day-to-day design tasks.

In the past, I’ve worked as the Creative Director for the new on-campus publication Atlas Magazine where I not only assisted the Photo Editor in conceptualizing and orchestrating photo shoots using models, photographers, stylists, hair and make-up artists, but also oversaw the design of the overall magazine, social media, and marketing material. As a member of the executive board, I also help plan fundraising events to support the printing of each of our issues.

In general, I’m the go-to girl for anything aesthetically-related. Whatever organization I get involved in, I am the appointed photographer, graphic designer, and/or video editor.

The Beast of Verant City - Poster

Beast of Verant City – Concept Art & Kickstarter

Design

In the Spring of 2014, I was asked to develop the concept art for a BFA Film project to be produced over the summer. Using the descriptions created by the writer, I used Adobe Photoshop to bring these characters to life. In addition, to the concept art, I created animations for the production’s kickstarter video using Adobe After Effects. This video is available here on their kickstarter page.

90 Days Abroad

Web Design

Design

In the Spring of 2014 I took a class in Advanced Interactive Media. The following are websites I designed in that time.

My final project revolved around my semester abroad last year. I designed the wireframes in photoshop and created test mockups using HTML and CSS. After creating these I partnered with a friend who is a Software Engineer who helped to program this site to create the user experience I had imagined. The site is still a work in progress.

90 Days Abroad

Another project I worked on in this time was a brief preview  into Spring Trends for 2014. The videos and photos star a friend of mine who runs a popular style blog in Boston of which I am also the photographer. I created all the content and coded the site myself.

This project was created in my Intro to Interactive Media course. I coded all of the content myself using HTML and CSS. The photos link to other blogs online.

Motion Graphics – Class Projects

Design, Video

In fall 2013, I took a course in Motion Graphics at Emerson College. The following videos are the projects I worked on in that time.

The following was my final project in the course. I created all of the graphics in Photoshop and animated them in Adobe After Effects.

The following is a clip from an exercise in creating Title Sequences. I began creating an alternative title sequence to Ocean’s Eleven. I created all of the graphics in Photoshop and animated them in Adobe After Effects. The music is “Another Way to Die” by Jack White and Alicia Keys.

The following was an exercise in composting footage. The footage of the actress was shot in front of a green screen then composited onto a clip from The Lion King.

The following is the first project I created in Adobe After Effects. All graphics were created in Photoshop and animated in Adobe After Effects.

The Rented Life

BookRenter.com Web Series – “The Rented Life”

Video

In summer 2013, I worked as a Video Production Intern at BookRenter.com. I filmed the video footage for the videos compiled here, and provide the graphics for all of the videos in The Rented Life web series. This includes the title sequence, closing sequence, and overlaying graphics. In addition, I also created an instructional video for their site called “How to Return Your Textbooks.”
